The Crosswater London Toilet MPRO Single Flush: Why We Choose It
I don't do unboxings, but when I do... it's gonna be a toilet =)
The Crosswater London MPRO toilet hit our radar as we were remodeling our bathroom, of which we are doing many things out of order, so please mind the crazy state that it's in. It was prescribed by our sales rep over at Jack London Kitchen & Bath who knew we were initially looking at a Toto to go into our mid-century modern Eichler home's owner suite. We were looking at something modern in a one-piece with skirts to make cleaning easier and look better (for almost $200 less than the comparable Toto), so our rep recommended the Crosswater MPRO one-piece single-flush.
Toto Toilets and Why I Like Them
Toto is a Japanese innovator in lavatories, pushing the early limits of automatic toilet seats, remote controlled bidets, self-cleaning technology, and a whole bunch of other interesting features that’ll slack-jaw most casual toilet bowl shoppers.
When water saving mandates were introduced, they innovated methods of getting a strong flush from 1.6 gallons, then 1.28, then now under 1 gallon. They were just really smart with using water and even the cheapest one-piece toilets were reliable, and engineered with strategies that were eventually copied by all the popular American brands. We had installed about 3 of them in the past two homes and had first-hand knowledge about their performance.
Why We Considered the Crosswater MPRO Toilet
The design is a bit sleeker for modern homes, gone are the outlines of the p-trap, and with our mid-century modern home in mind, appreciated the tighter angles that the Crosswater offered. Our rep, who sells hundreds of these things endorsed the switch, so I was willing to accept and share our experience with the community.
The Crosswater London toilet does mention that it was designed in London and made in Europe, but the stamp on the tank was from China 🤷 There’s a blog post about it, but the video is no longer available 🙄 I’m sure they used to make them in Europe, but nothing beats higher margins yielded from China.
Summary of the Crosswater MPRO Toilet
I wanted to do an unboxing because there wasn't much on Youtube, as it was mainly a European brand and not commonly available in big box stores in the US. I'm not a plumber, nor any type of toilet expert, but just a general DIYer, so here are my main points of feedback:
The toilet looks good
The installation was straightforward
You'll save a few bucks compared to a comparable Toto, but I don't recognize anything lacking.
The quick release toilet seat is pretty cool
Among other toilets in the range, I’d say it’s a safe option. There are tons of other high-end toilets to choose from that are much more sleek and sophisticated, but for under $700 and to mix things up–go for it!
We’ll also be installing other Crosswater London shower fixtures, so stay tuned for the final reveal!
